These books are colorful and attractive as they are designed to promote early literacy development. The Honey Books have been sold not only locally, but internationally.
All of Johnna’s Honey Books are hand illustrated and written in her own handwriting. The look is intentionally simplistic. They are not produced in a digital manner and are naturally imperfect in appearance.

Johnna and I worked together in preschool. She is a wealth of knowledge. I would tease her that she was an OT, PT, SLP and IS wrapped up in one person. My students love her HONEY books and I use her language lessons that go with her books all the time. We worked together well and learned from each other. She goes way beyond academics with her students and their families! A true gem she is!
- Erin M, Speech Pathologist
I met Johnna during my tenure as a Pre-K teacher at Little Lighthouse Learning Center (LLLC). The children Johnna worked with would get so excited to work with her. They looked forward to the fun activities they'd participate in and were so proud to share their accomplishments. Johnna's hard work and dedication with helping the children's growth and development was not only evident in their confidence and participation in class but in their assessment scores as well. Not only were the children excited about her visits, I too looked forward to them. Johnna not only shared ideas to help the children she worked with but she'd share ideas from her vast knowledge in special education that helped all my students in my class. Johnna also valued my input and observation of the children. Our working together as a team empowered me in my classroom as an Early Childhood Education Teacher.- Nilda Ramos, Retired Pre-K Teacher
I worked in collaboration with Johnna for many years in the preschool classroom setting. She was flexible with her schedule and mentored me through early childhood special education and how to adapt my classroom to meet the needs of my students. She was always available to model IEP objectives and goals, to attend field trips, and to create modifications and accommodations to level the playing field for those who needed it. Johnna has a plethora of knowledge and is a joy to work with!
- Alison C., Preschool Teacher
Johnna has helped me tremendously with my students who have had challenging behaviors. She was very easy to reach and always there to guide me when I was struggling with challenging students in my classroom. Johnna is creative and looks at the whole child when looking for the root cause of the negative behavior, not just what is happening on the surface. If you have any questions or concerns, reach out to her. You will be glad you did! She helped me become a better intervention specialist.
- S. Roman, Preschool Teacher
I've been working with Johnna Lyman in the nature-based early childhood education space since 2018 through advocacy and co-writing professional development. The experience and professionalism that she brings to the intersection of diverse learners and connection to nature is unique and high quality. Johnna's consistent messaging regarding the importance of creating space for all learners outdoors is inspiring. Johnna was instrumental in my son’s early education. Initially visiting our home for instruction due to him being ventilator dependent, Johnna engaged with my son for early intervention. She even taught me that I could expect more from him. Her lessons were invaluable.

My students and I just love Miss Johnna! I have worked with her for 21 years and her heart always wants the BEST for students no matter what their disability. Johnna’s strategies and resources have helped many of my students achieve their best every day! I would never hesitate to reach out to her no matter what my need may be, she has my back! Johnna has been a wonderful colleague and friend.

Johnna Lyman’s Honey Books and related products are a tribute to her late mother, Honey. Her writing journey began one night in December 2018. As her mother spent her last days in hospice, Johnna was sitting nearby when these thoughts kept coming to her. She wasn’t sure what they were but she liked the ideas and started writing them down. So began the chapter of writing and illustrating her first book, Honey Calms the Farm. Johnna was not sure where the inspiration for the theme and title came from but what she did know for sure is that her mom was the calm in all of her storms. The story flowed out of Johnna effortlessly, although her husband Tom gets all the credit for the last page of all the books in this Honey Series. He was the one who suggested writing a series. We are all glad that he did!
The combination of Johnna’s career in special education and the need to fully grieve the loss of her mom inspired her to this place of writing children's books as a means of healing her heart and celebrating the memory of her mom. All of Johnna’s books are hand illustrated and written in her own handwriting. The look is intentionally simplistic. They are not produced in a digital manner and are naturally imperfect in appearance. The Honey Books are designed to promote early literacy development and are a joyful tribute to her mother, Honey, who loved children and loved to read.
These are the perfect gift for young children and early childhood educators alike and are sold individually or in gift packs. All books ordered through this website will be signed and dated by the author.
